Dating involves vulnerability. Toxic masculinity, technology and old-fashioned misogyny are tough for women, especially in online dating spaces. There is a vocal minority of toxic guys out there ruining it for the majority of good guys. The nice guys ask me sincerely, "Why are women so jaded?"

But men have it hard too. They don’t have as many social networks as women overall, and their level of emotional intimacy in friendships is significantly lower than women’s. Society has messaged to men that their net worth IS their self-worth and that is quite damaging.

The Surgeon General has declared a loneliness epidemic for US adults – so when people are out there trying to make connections, let’s all remember it is not easy.

Please be kind and don’t ghost people. Be honest but kind when rejecting. Be gracious when rejected. We all make mistakes; let’s remember to be kind to ourselves. Dating should be a fun space where love can grow. Let's do our part and bring kindness into this space.
